Prevention & Protection Awareness to a cause that is near to our hearts.
At the age of 45 years old, Hyvelle Ferguson-Davis suffered a heart attack and stroke all in a short span. Determined to learn how to ensure she did not become another statistic, she began the hardest fight of her life, learning how to regain the control that she lost through her health crisis. Through this journey of survival, she noticed when she walked in the medical room, too often her voice was not being heard, there were not too many people that looked like her and as she became educated in the preventive measures of how to prevent health crisis. This is when she realized: had she been given this information before her heart attack and stroke maybe things would have been different for her.
Heart Sistas was birthed!
As the Vice-President of the Board of the Heart Sistas organization, it truly is an honor for me to be part of an organization that focuses on ensuring that we as black women and women of color understand that our health matters. I have personally seen the health journey of our President and CEO Hyvelle as a Stroke and Heart attack survivor and knowing if she did not speak up about her health, she would not be with us today.
At 59 I’m happy to be a wife, mother and grandmother. I am an ordained minister serving at my local church for over 18 years. The President and CEO of Heart Sista Hyvelle is my sister. After her horrific encounter with Diabetes, Stroke and Heart-attack my perspective shifted. My gratitude for her being alive led me to be a part of her journey. My life joy is to mentor women to live the best health aware life as possible through proper nutrition and exercise. I believe Heart health is paramount to women and having an opportunity to help to bring that message across in every spectrum is vital.
Greetings, I serve on the Board of Directors as secretary for Heart Sistas. Inc. As a wife, mother, career woman, and active member of my faith organization, I experienced firsthand how easy it was for me to make my health (physical and mental) a matter of low priority. I joined Heat Sistas in its organic stage of existence through a social media chat group “In It To Win It,” launched by Hyvelle Ferguson-Davis in 2018 to motivate and encourage the cultivation of healthy habits and lifestyle changes as a preventative measure against diseases related to obesity, including heart disease and diabetes. My dedication to the work of Heart Sistas include supporting its efforts to raise awareness among minority women regarding the prevalence of heart disease and how healthy lifestyles changes could aid the prevention of obesity-related illnesses.
